It is controversial when one denies own background, due to the delusion of being special from own societal/racial/national background. Such feelings are often associated with having good position in life which gives rise to euphria. I am also an Indian, so I can better understand your condition. After more than 700 years of slavery under Islamic rule and 250 years of slavery under British rule, we Indians have lost the taste of being recognised as an "Indian" anyway ! We are now slaves of our own weaknesses.

India has given birth to several great personalities and those personalities have never faced any hesitations of "Indian identiy" at international level. Since their own bright persona was more than sufficient to overcome the dark of Indian background.

I am not saying whether you lack something, but I would say that you are responsible for your own perceptions, experiences and feelings, not those who refer you as an "Indian" while being in Swedish society. So best advise that you should first place yourself under microscope to find out your "indian" limitations to try to get the rid of them.

Olle corrects me:
When you write that "animals appear to solve [social dilemmas]
effortlessly", you seem to have read Leimar's message somewhat
selectively. A more balanced summary would have been that "some animals,
in some specific situations, appear to solve social dilemmas elegantly,
while some fail badly".

Comment on Chalmers: A Modern University or a Kafka Nightmare? by devdattd

First, one certainly should NOT define it via these pedagogic charades. It may make AK feel very cozy that they're doing their duty to uphold standards of teaching and research by sending people to these "courses", but, alas, it does nothing of the sort. In fact the whole thing is just a great tribute to Kafka, since people on AK themselves admit this, and also that they themselves know nothing about the content of these "courses".

How then, should one rationally act to maintain and improve standards of teaching and research? Use the resources at the Departments! People there are much better positioned for this task than outside "pedagogs" for at least two main reasons:
1. They have a lot more concrete tangible data to go on, regarding the performance of people as teachers and supervisors - there are student evaluations, feedback, commentsfrom teaching assistants, studierektors ... They also know who participates in new initiatives, group discussions etc in the Department to develop curricula, new courses etc. In short, they know their own people much better.
2. People within the Department also know best the specific nature of their own discipline which calls for special ways to address them. Unlike the "pedgogs", I don't subscribe to the "one size fits all" theory. Whether you teach Math, CS, Physics, Chemistry ... etc. makes a big difference on how you're going to do it. In particular, as anybody sensible in CS would tell you, this discipline needs its own special way of approaching issues, right from introductory programming, to more abstract theoretical models to advanced systems building.

We are preparing a much more systematic document on this subject which we hope to bring to the attention of the AK soon.

It sure sounds awkward that teaching quality would only be measured by 10 points of, as I presume, undefined pedagogic courses, but still, in a less obvious case than that of "D", how does one define pedagogic quality?
